The Twitterverse is going Fedi!
Fediverse, that is. Which is what Mastodon was created for. Not familiar with these two terms?
Mastodon is free and open-source software for running self-hosted social networking services. It has microblogging features similar to the Twitter service, which are offered by a large number of independently run Mastodon nodes (known as "instances"), each with its own code of conduct, terms of service, privacy options, and moderation policies.[
The reason Twitter users are migrating over to Mastodon is described in this Tweet, by someone who has not yet made the switch:
With Twitter looking like its going to go titsup after the whole hostile takeover thing (ala 2018 Tumblr Exodus-tier) and Pillowfort being DoA, I'll most likely look into creating a Mast0d0n account [...]
And Elon is the driver, with today's outrage being that he seems to want to "authenticate all real humans", which is having this result:
Dusting off my mastodon account.
Or see this Toot (the term for a post on Mastodon, equivalent of a Tweet which is the name for a status post on Twitter), from someone who has defected:
I've been spending a lot of my time complaining about a lot of services I used recently, and am feeling better after having left Uber/Amazon/Twitter.
And defecting they are! A Toot from the Founder, CEO and lead developer of Mastodon:
I believe that Mastodon servers have gained around 49,000 new people since March. Our iOS app downloads rose by 109%. On mastodon.social, I am seeing a 71% increase in sign-ups and 36% increase in monthly active users as people are coming back to their old accounts.
Twitter, doing its censorship thing, is not going to go quietly into that dark night:
Twitter is blocking me from posting a link to my mastodon. If I try to post the link, it says:
"We can't complete this request because this link has been identified by Twitter or our partners as potentially harmful"
There's already been previous waves of bitcoiners migrating over to Twitter, usually following Twitter becoming more aggressive in censoring Tweets and suspending accounts. Most have ended up on the Mastodon instance BitcoinHackers.org which, with 12.5K users is ranked the 25th highest Mastodon instance, by count of registered users.
Curious, and want to give Mastodon (or Pleroma) a try?
Some of the Bitcoiner accounts on that Mastodon instance are used to mirror that person's Tweets, using a bot/tool like Moa.Party. So you can ease your way from Twitter into the Fediverse by starting that way.
Using Mastodon will not be all that foreign to a Twitter user. Here, @Bendd77 (whose Twitter account got suspended and now Tweets under @GhostOfNuna, shares a thread on Mastodon of Video tutorials:
The admin of the BitcoinHackers.org instance is not the only Mastodon instance for bitcoiners, and may not even be accepting new users at the time that you read this. Check the[Instance's About page](https://bitcoinhackers.org/about] for more info.
What about Nostr? 👀 @fiatjaf
reply
Nostr is what Mastodon supporters really want.

Whatever happened to the blue sky project Jack said he would be working on?
reply
It's a sunken ship and snake oil.
reply
We'll see. I think it's too early to declare that.

Edit: Heard fiatjaf on Citadel Dispatch... he had a look inside blue sky... not good.
:(
If you'ld like to jump start the list of Bitcoiners you follow, I prepared a list of Who To Follow, with instructions how to import the list into your Mastodon account.

Oh, and one more example of an instance on the Fediverse you will see frequently on Stacker News: BitcoinTV!
BitcoinTV is a Peertube host that serves videos:
And because Peertube is a federated resource, you can follow any channel on BitcoinTV. For instance, on Mastodon follow @simply_bitcoin@bitcointv.com so that when they post a new episode in their channel, you will see it in your Mastodon account's timeline -- even though you don't have an account on BitcoinTV.

Here's a view of the most recent posts to BitcoinHackers.org, if you wanted to see some posts by bitcoiners on Mastodon, there is a "Public" view. It's a bit noisy because of bot accounts, but if you don't follow them they won't show up in your feed (unless someone you follow were to re-share (essentially a "retweet") them.

Mastodon is dead.
Stacker instances running on your own node and federated over RSS are the future.
Bitcoin fixes it.

Happy to see more Mastodon users. Liberdon (https://liberdon.com) is also a good instance and doesn't require an application. Alternatively you can host your own Mastodon or Pleroma instance on a VPS or Raspberry Pi.

CORRECTIONS: (Due to the 10 minute edit window being too short!)
Using Mastodon will not be all that foreign to a Twitter user. Here, @Bendd77
I typo'd, that should have been @Bennd77, who does a daily podcast shared frequently here on SN called the Bitcoin And ... podcast.
whose Twitter account got suspended and now Tweets under @GhostOfNuna
And I typo'd on that: The Twitter account that SN user @Bennd77 Tweets under is @GhostOfNunya.

Check the[Instance's About page](https://bitcoinhackers.org/about] for more info.
The correct link for that is: https://bitcoinhackers.org/about/more
