It's the future of in-store lightning payments basically.
It can be setup so that it works exactly the same as when you pay with a credit card, but instead of relying on a bank, it draws sats straight from your own lightning node.
Bolt cards are based on NFC, but they have a specific chip that is more secure than a regular NFC, with protection to some common attacks.
At the time of that post it wasn't available, but now you can make your own bolt card servers because it was released as open source here.
So, you don't need any third party to pay with a contactless card, taking the money straight from your own node.
