fedora 38 is great. everything works out of the box. also the new gnome is ideal for the old multimedia computer.
even hdmi sound works. it does not work on manjaro and on neon. i could not get alsa to work with hdmi sound. they did not detect the intel/nvidia card combination.
the only small thing which did not work was video thumbnails. all entries on github say that there is a bug in fedora 38. it took me many hours but finally i found a solution in an ubuntu group: you have to kill nautilus, delete the thumbnail cache folder, then start nautilus again in debugging mode G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all NAUTILUS_DEBUG=Window nautilus
and go to a folder where you want the thumbnails. they will automatically load. exit and you will have thumbnails on all videos
