Great chat yesterday. Thanks for participating. I learned some new and interesting things about cricket from @carlosfandango. Two sports I have never played but would like to try are cricket and curling (I know, weird, but it looks fun and I have a curling club near me so it is accessible). With that in mind:
Shill me the sport (define sport as you please) that you have never played/tried but would like to try.
Sats for all responses as usual. Extra sats if you give me a great one to add to my list.
Cheers, GR
Not sure it was much of an explanation re cricket. I have tried curling… felt like I was practising housecleaning half the time.
I have tried some crazy sports; Ironman triathlon, Marathon des Sables in Morocco, cheese rolling in England, man vs horse in Wales, mudflat racing in France, and even had a go at extreme ironing.
Sports I have not got the nerve to try; Bull running in Spain, Calcio Storico in Italy.
Sports / events I would want to try; Barkley Marathon, Bike the Iditarod 350, Golf…. it would be easy enough to do and there are facilities not far away. What if I enjoy it? It could cost a fortune in time and money!

That's an extensive list. I definitely need more info on extreme ironing.

According to the Extreme Ironing Bureau, extreme ironing is "the latest danger sport that combines the thrills of an extreme outdoor activity with the satisfaction of a well-pressed shirt."
We used to climb with ironing boards and irons, find a particularly precarious section and get the work wear out for a steam press and a photo.

Well I won't be adding that to my list but thanks for sharing.

Archery

Good one. I have never tried but I know people who are into it and love it.

I had a few archery classes back in high school in PE class. We shot modern composite bows, not the classic wood ones, and it was very fun. The only thing I don’t like about it is when I forgot to give my left arm (my bow holding arm) a slight bend, and the bow string would whip my left arm on release; that whip would hurt very much.

You should definitely give curling a try, but it’s best when played with a group of friends (4 people on a team). I was in the curling club in high school senior year and had so much fun playing with my friends. It involves not only skills (sweeping, reading the ice, throwing the stone accurately), but also requires planning and strategy like a chess match.
I’ve always wanted to try wingsuit flying because it looks very fun and exciting to fly like that. But I have a wife and 3 young kids, and I need to not die for the foreseeable future, at least until my kids grow up. So no wingsuit flying for me… yet.

No wingsuits for me. The videos of people doing that are incredible though.

I had a hard time thinking up a sport I haven't at least tried and that held some appeal. If you hadn't mentioned curling, I might not have come up with anything. My wife and I really enjoyed shuffle board whenever we're on a cruise and curling seems like a fun variation on that.

Shuffle board is a lot of fun. I used to play with my grandfather when I was a kid.

Hurling - went to a match in Ireland and it was sweet, never played and now I'm older and more fragile I'm afraid haha
reply
I have heard of it but never seen it played so I am going to do some research.
