Portugal is a very far-left Socialist country, high taxes tons of corruption and woke agendas everywhere. They took all freedoms away during scamdemic and prime minister wanted to force vaccines and vax app on everyone. There is nothing that cool about Portugal.

that's really just a problem if you live there. you can go there and have a great time, then leave again
Portugal is awesome

I haven't travelled much so grain of salt. Canada, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland round out all my travels.
tbh most places are great because they have people and you can always find good people. I usually just want to read, eat, and measure my ignorance somewhere pretty when I travel. So I'd guess it depends on what you're into.

Brazil. People like to have a good time there. lots of eating and dancing. two things I love. I don't know you well enough to advise whether you should or should not go, but most people don't know about bitcoin there.

Second vote for Italy. Milan, Lake Garda and Venice are all worth a visit. Pisa and Florence for a sightsee. Much friendlier than other Mediterranean countries.
Try and learn a little Italian before you go. Some of the regional towns can be a little intimidating otherwise (background of language in Spanish, Portuguese or French can really help).

I've been to 24 countries, by far, #1 is Belize. Have not found anywhere that accepts btc yet. Almost convinced a pupusa stand to start accepting it. ;-D Check this post for lowdown on why BZ: https://stacker.news/items/195375

Mexico... I know it has a bad rep... but...
I had the wildest experiences and met some of the most chill, down to earth people. I sat and drank beer on plastic chairs in the street with old people, got free food from local places when I was lost and missed a bus. I was invited to random parties, roof top getaways and had some wild sex.
Latin people are so caring, generous and nice. Wish I could move there.

London, UK. It’s got a lot of history and a slow growing Bitcoin economy….
And they speak a version of English :)

where's some good nature I can get to near London?
reply

Do yourself a favour. Fly into London, then pick a train headed away from London. That's where you'll get the best experiences.
reply

Agreed! But not necessarily as btc friendly as London…
reply
10 sats \ 0 replies \ @Public_N_M_E 13 Jul
For sure. But I'd swap BTC friendliness for human interaction friendliness for a change ;) because you will struggle to find any of that in London. The Thames Valley as a whole @birdeye21 is kind of dull, flat, and not much to it. If you want nature. Train to Gloucester for the Cotswolds, train to Winchester for the South downs, train to Oxford for the Chilterns. Train to Cardiff (then you'll need to find smaller routes) for Brecon beacons. All within a 2-3hr journey. The Peaks/Lakes, Snowdonia, Scotland, are a fair bit further out but absolutely worth the time.

Depends on what you like to do. I know London fairly well I guess.
London is full of parks from formal gardens, to overgrown churchyards and one of the jewels is Richmond Park and another (closer to the centre) is Hyde Park.
What are you looking to do?

sorry im meaning more national park/landscape/scenic regions surrounding London - reasonable to travel to from there

Those tend to be a little further outside London I think.
You have Peak District, Lake District, Brecon Beacons, all a few hours / train ride outside London. More traditional areas closer to London like The Cotswolds.
All of Scotland is amazing though!
The south coast of England - South Downs - has some beautiful parts although I don’t know it well.
Be aware long distance train tickets are quite expensive and fuel prices also are quite high at the moment (although you wouldn’t need a car in central London)

Japan, hands down.
It was an amazing experience, because everything is done so meticulously with great attention to detail. You can walk into a 7-11 and have a better meal from the frozen section than most restaurants in north america.
The restaurants there, especially the ramen and sushi are another level (though this may mean you can't enjoy these foods at home anymore).
And the parks in the cities and the scenery in the country side are beautiful.
Highly recommend you go, though not sure if they accept Bitcoin, I went before I discovered it. A quick look at BTC Map shows its not many places unfortunately.

Costa Rica. Hands down the greatest place on Earth. The people are just so chill and nice. It's a breath of fresh air away from general western countries. Their attitude to everything is different and I love it.
