I did something very similar. Quit PhD during the pandemic, no regrets. Shortly after that I joined some big name company, but the whole thing was a mess as everyone was WFH so I quit that too. Then I joined a 4 person startup and it's the best job I ever had.
I think dropping out twice in a row isn't a risk many would take, but for me it worked out perfectly.
Didn't renew a lucrative contract job in 2011 that would have had me overseeing 200 franchises all across Canada to instead work full time on my own business.
Not getting the jab despite intense pressure from work, friends and family. Best decision i've ever made
