I didn't see yesterday's post. SN must be trying to silence us.
I'm glad you said "best" rather than "greatest". I think Jordan's the best by a pretty comfortable margin.
I am curious how people approach this kind of question, though. Most probably go with something like comparing the actual contributions made by the player and how much they dominated their competition.
I think there are some fun alternative ways to answer the question, though, that are a bit more abstract:
  1. Randomly add the player to real NBA rosters throughout history. Who improves teams the most?
  2. Make teams composed entirely of clones of each player. Which team wins some sort of clone tournament?
I don't think Jordan's the answer to either of these scenarios. Bird's my answer to the first and Lebron's my answer to the second.
