Spamming uninterested normies doent work.
Throwing pearls to swine. Spam
How could u filter out people who are actually interested?
How to prevent sybil attack?
reply
Why do you call it spamming? If you send to random e-mail addresses, yes, it is spamming. But if you send to your friends it is up to them if they want to use Lightning or not. Nobody is forcing anybody. But without real world adoption, CBDC will win.
Regarding sybil attack, one way would be to only allow certain domains to send to. For example: only gmail users. Creating multiple gmail accounts is certainly possible, but considering that we will only send once to any email, an attacker will need to spend a lot of time to create several gmail accounts and the reward would be insignificant.

What worked much better (but doesnt scale):
Each christmas I give my parents btc in same fiat amount. Its been 5-6 years now so I could come to them and say: If I gave you euros, you would have maybe 25% less now because of inflation. With Bitcoin you have X
And thats undeniable. They understood....sadly they still dont have any savings to save apart from what I hold for them.

It's up to the receiver to decide what is spam. If it's unprompted message, then it's more likely to be considered spam by the receiver.
reply
If those friends didnt ask for it, it is unwanted.
I come from position of someone who zaps random people left and right and I think more than half still doesnt care. They lose backup for their 5k sats on WoS so its a donation to WoS :) My sister got onchain btc in 2017....lost seed. Obiously.
I have 5 gmail accounts :)

Orange pilled a co-worker yesterday. Well, the first of many conversations, but he clearly took it hook, line and sinker. Sent him a few sats while he was standing next to me.
Just now I sent him 1 sat with the comment "Just cuz I can".
reply
Sounds too "spammy" and might generate the opposite effect. You should think about a different strategy or approach.
I would say it would be better to envision common day to day scenarios/tasks where lightning would shine and then create situations where people could experience it.

Can you make it so that one can provide the email addresses in another way than as a public comment here? I can make a new disposable email address for myself, but I can't ask my friends to do that. And I definitely don't want to post their address here for anyone to see...
reply
This post is only for discussion. We are already implementing this function on our website. Posting publicly e-mail addresses is a bad idea.
reply
Ok, this should be clarified as your original post states the following and people have already started posting email addresses here.
Join us in this mission by providing your email address below and inviting up to 5 of your friends to experience the power of Lightning Network.

You are right. Our mistake.

Also, I just checked your Walletano Twitter account as well as the one from ZoltanAB. It seems you need to up your game in terms of PR: Twitter view count for most of your posts is extremely low. I only used to see the posts of Zoltan as I used to be an LN node runner (but somehow those have vanished from my timeline too). He's a regular poster, but it seems to be mostly into the void. Probably more of a Twitter algorithm problem than a content problem.
This is a great initiative, and posting it here on SN is a good idea. But no one I know in the LN field ever mentions Walletano, so reach might be too limited at this point.
Just some (hopefully) constructive feedback for you. Let's onboard those 10,000 people :) I might just bother some friends who dabble in shitcoins to give me their email addresses for this.

Thank you for the valuable feedback. Appreciated.

Interested to see more lightning adoption & development

Interesting. How would this work? Also, what about privacy? E-Mail addresses of sender and receiver would be exposed, right?
reply
It would use our Bitcoin by e-mail function. https://medium.com/@walletano/send-bitcoin-by-e-mail-yes-via-walletano-1b3f0ce68f0 Yes, we need to know the e-mail address of the receiver, otherwise we can't send by email.
We believe this would be one of the easiest way to onboard tens of thousands of new users. Anyone could help: if you don't have sats to spend, you just share some of your contacts' e-mail addresses and we send them some sats on your behalf. And if you have sats, you can simply use our wallet to send Bitcoin by e-mail to your friends.
We need Bitcoin and LN adoption to achieve our goals of transforming Bitcoin to the world's preferred currency.
