Original logo has Bitcoin Wizard vibes, new one looks good but has professional company vibes.

I prefer the original.

reply

I made changes to make it closer to the original. :) Sharpened it a bit @nullama

me too for the same reasons

But it also may be related to human inertia. We don't like change when we got used to something.

reply

is there a middle way?

reply

Yes, a professional company guided by bitcoin wizards.

Sexy! Old one is hard to read.

I'm 100% a fan. Way more crisp and professional IMO. Don't let K00b use this for the site without compensation.

reply

thx bro. I would let him why not? :) Logo is the easiest part of branding.

reply

The new proposal looks a bit like SV instead of SN.

reply

I get the impression yours looks like a publishing news site aka HN. I agree to other poster it need more wizardy touch.

reply

made update, check it in comments

reply

Second one is more professional. 1st seems more grass roots, which grass roots can be a better vibe.

reply

I like the logo of the 2nd one. I don't like the font of the whole Stacker News text. It's too plain, except for the 's' and the 'n'.

reply

Made update :)

reply

Good Suggestion, how about we vote to change? Highest stacker in SN

reply

I like your ambition but I love the original logo

reply

Meaning do not change it from as-is

reply

Thats ok :) Maybe one day there will be room for improvement. I did it for fun not. Dont care if it gets implemented or not.

reply

Looks absolutely awesome!

reply

The new one is better, however...

...allow the N to be a normal N. There's no benefit on drawing attention to an N. The entire point is to accentuate the lightning bolt, the S. Correcting the N focuses attention on the S, rather than drawing attention away from it.

reply

I like them both.

The OG logo feels more "pleb" while the updated logo feels a bit more professional.

reply

Nice.. I really like how you use decently the dot inside of N letter.

reply

Looks great!

reply

I like your proposals but I prefer the original because it's made with a font (lightning) so it's easier to use and we can do variations of it with little effort. One can even write an entire post with it.

reply

Yea but why? To make it unreadable? First and foremost quality of logo should be to identify the brand. Style, uniqueness, coolness are secondary.

reply

I'm saying one could not should write an entire post with it 😅

quality of logo should be to identify the brand

I understand and agree with your point and I think the current Stacker News logo already does that. But this is just my opinion, I'm not a designer.

Also, I like the ease of use of the original font logo because I'm a programmer and I like manipulating things with code :)

OT, I like your dribble page, @designsats. Lots of really cool designs there, man!

Thank you brother :) If you ever need branding, UI or print design - remember me

Am I the only one who cannot see the images?

Update: The image link is not secure, ... my browsers (I've tried both Chrome, and Firefox) refuse to load it.

What's the deal, nobody else has this?

reply

what browser?

reply

I've tried both Chrome, and Firefox. On Ubuntu Linux 20.04, if that matters any.

Chrome is Version 114.0.5735.106 (Official Build) snap (64-bit).

Firefox is v114.

I even just now tried Brave, same thing: Version 1.52.129 Chromium: 114.0.5735.198 (Official Build) (64-bit)

reply

Ok, it's my shitty cablemodem ISP. Works fine when I use firefox via Socks5 proxy. Probably fine from a VPN as well, but I don't have one to try.

I then launched, on the problematic cablemodem ISP connection: $ chromium --enable-ssl-debugging

Then looked at the chrome://net-export/ https://netlog-viewer.appspot.com/#events

And put a few of the relevant events into:

https://pastebin.com/ZuH4vxQW

Hell if I know how to decipher / troubleshoot that, but thought I would share.

I'll remember to try a different network the next time something like this occurs.

reply

Not big fan. The "S" seems out of place (way to large compared to the rest of letters). The "N" is also wierd, looks like a glitch rather than intentional.

reply

nooooo, keep it as it is!

reply

This is nice!

How do I get in touch regarding logos?

I've also been known to wear the hat of a Professional Brand Publicist for a very long time. IMO, the current logo is PERFECT. other than could just possibly use some more 'yellow highlighting' but that would be all. it has all the characteristics needed for a successful logo!

reply

This could have been a perfect thread in the ~Design territory ;)

reply

make the 'n' also a lightning bolt, and intertwine the two.

or, just go with the 's' and nix the 'n'.

reply

I was worried it would be too generic without the N

reply

Let it be! The OG

reply

How about an art contest to revisión the Stacker. News Logo? I think it would give this space a lot more exposure.. just my 2 sats

reply

Very sleek

reply

It has some zap ⚡️ vibes to it

reply

Pretty dope 🤙

reply

Original is like two bolts. Better that one bolt ;) Your logo is nice too. More stable feeling.

reply

Looks awesome.

I like it
