Why? Webapps need loads of optimization and not everything is browser compatible. But I'm curious to understand why.

Can you give me an examble of something that is not compatible with browser?
Even if it takes "loads of optimizations", it's still better than getting censored by appstores and big tech.
Webapps are the future.
