You can but don't keep mac laptops from this era plugged in and always on. You will destroy it. The battery will inflate eventually and only the backlight of the LCD turns off so you will experience LCD burn in. You cannot boot the machine without a battery.

I have heard people say they have not experienced that issue with the screen. I don't have the exact model off hand but it is a late 2015 MBP pro model. I had been using mine for the same reason and after a few months I noticed some screen burn in. It was just a ghosty image of the desktop itself. The only workaround I found was to set up a screensaver.
