I've said this in another thread. If you need to quit smoking/vaping/nicotine. Read Alan Carr's - The easy way to quit smoking. It's very very good. If you want to build better habits to lose weight or kick drugs or whatever. James Clear - Atomic Habits, will help you build those better habits.
With that said. My story. It's really short don't worry. I was a 40 a day smoker. With no real intention of giving up ever. I'd kind of just accepted that I was a smoker it was like my identity. Then I watched a young friend of mine who I watched grow up die suddenly at 21. Because they accidently ate nut contaminated food (Allergic reaction, throat closed up, suffocated). I took a long hard look at myself after that and asked a serious question.
Why does he have to be dead for no good reason, whilst you actively choose to kill yourself slowly?
I quit smoking fairly shortly afterwards. And started getting healthy, eating well, working out, practicing mindfulness. Just getting myself to be better than I was.
My advice to people wanting to make changes, it is just honest, it's not fluffed up or made pretty for marketing. Simple cold and harsh.
If you want to change, you have to want the change to be made more than you want the pain of making the change to stop. Because it will hurt, and you will want to quit. Find a why, whatever it is. And want it more than you want to not suffer through the process.
Finally, I'd like to add. To all those embarking on a quest to remove nicotine/any other addiction from their lives. Withdrawal is a bitch, and I empathize. But you can do this. Want it more. Now get after it. Bet on yourself. And win.
