Although the device itself is top notch, and probably one of the best in the industry, I think the main thing happening is that they will launch a dedicated store for content for this device.
That's what they are trying to do, recreate what they did with the iPhone, hardware and software locked into a walled garden.
Although I'm no fan of this approach, I can see that it might work to create an initial interest of people into this type of content and technology. Then later there could be a more open option that I would be more of a fan. But without the initial push from Apple, I think it has been too difficult to create an ecosystem for open development so far.
Now, the privacy issues of this device are enormous. They will be able to track where you are looking at, all the time. Attention is extremely valuable and most people don't realize it yet. Unfortunately most big companies know this and they are all competing to be there, in your brain. And once they control your attention, they control your thought, which then leads to your actions, and that's your life that they have control over.
