There are a lot of options out there. Curious what people are using for different use cases. Many folks will have more than one seed phrase to back up. Listing these in order of funds committed. Do you use the same method for everything? If not, why not?
  1. Cold storage (Coldcard/Seedsigner)
  2. Your Node / Lightning Node (Umbrel/Start9/Raspiblitz/Etc)
  3. Your mobile lightning node (Phoenix/Blixt/ect )
I use many methods and each one with a backup in another method, in another location.
But most important is to split all the stash into 3 levels: hold, cache, spend.
As methods I use:
  • password managers (Keepass + Bitwarden self custody) on different encrypted USB sticks and also on different remote private NAS.
  • steganography (embed words into images)
  • TailsOS USBs with encrypted persistent partition where is stored a copy of a password manager file. This is for emergency and traveling.
  • one of my substack guides contain inserted 12 words from a wallet. Find it if you can.
  • I put 12 words on 12 mountain peaks. Me and my daughter are the only ones knowing the order and location.
I do not use anymore hardware wallets. I gave them away years ago. I know what am I doing so those are not useful for me.
All these explained in one of my oldest guide: https://darthcoin.substack.com/p/bitcoin-be-your-own-bank-think-like

Multisig with paper and metal backups ( diy metal washers ). Don't ever have all the keys together unless you really need to. This is for the "hold" wallet.
Separate singlesig wallets for cache and spend wallets, backed up on paper and metal.
Hardware devices aren't wallets or backups, they are signing devices.
