why can’t we as a decentralised community come together and build a new phone. There are so many amazing tech/engineers/hardware folks in this space.
Simply because it's not that easy.
Just think about all the engineering, financing, marketing, coordination required etc.
Also, there are already alternatives like Graphene OS which seem to solve most of the problems. I don't use it yet though.
