I wonder how hierarchical channels are coming along. IMO they're the most exciting recent development in LN times. We could have channel factories right now without a soft-fork and be able to rebalance liquidity among channels off-chain. Whereas eltoo would potentially still take years before it's finalized.
If anyone in the know about Lightning development/mailing lists could tell me, has there been any serious discussion on using this approach instead of waiting for eltoo?
