The buyer of the NFT will have exclusive access to the original document at Liliesleaf Museum.

Liliesleaf farm, then on the outskirts of Johannesburg, was used as the secret headquarters of the African National Congress from 1961 and was where Mandela and other party leaders hid from authorities.

Suspended museum CEO Nicholas Wolpe said he bought the original in 2007 for R30 000. He said the museum retained the original in its archives and that it would remain there.

The original document was handwritten on paper and is vulnerable to natural deterioration, but as an NFT, it will be preserved in perpetuity.
