Storage isn’t the bottleneck bandwidth is, at least for L1 nodes. I suspect the same is true of lightning as well.
I would also like to bring some attention to the possibility of Bitcoin being a multi-planetary network. Small blocks and long block times would help keep the network secure even if we were to begin to explore our solar system. This is something I've been thinking about a lot lately. I wish I knew of more resources that discuss it further.

Let’s focus on earth first. Not making needed changes because we’re worried about it not working on Mars is very dumb IMO.

Do you mean the bandwidth for the initial download? For synced node, the bandwidth needed is afaik roughly 15GB up, 15GB down per month. That means you need 5kB/s (15,000,000/30/24/60/60) symmetric at least - and that indeed seems to be the order of magnitude of incoming transactions listed at https://mempool.space.
