I just quickly scanned through the doc, but it sounds like bimodal is just the estimation function that prioritizes small payments, payments in previously successful paths and only small payments in previously unsuccessful paths. If I'm getting it right, then MPP could use bimodal pathfinding and intuitively that could work nicely, but generally MPP and bimodal are separate concepts addressing separate thing.
