I'm sure everyone knows that setban can be called by using bitcoin-cli

Just wondered if you could start bitcoind with these flags. Or better, ban an IP in .conf file. Or, is this only possible through whitelisting IPs? Also, if anyone can explain the full commmand:

bitcoin-cli setban IP/range add [long string of numbers]

I see that using bitcoin-cli enforces setban on restarts anyway. Thanks again for the helpful search/links.

https://developer.bitcoin.org/reference/rpc/setban.html I think there is also a command to use a txt list of IPs but can't remember now. I use it once in 2017 to ban the bcasher nodes.

Thanks. That's clearer. So that long string of numbers may be the ban time? I see that can be put in there like so (which is why I wanted to clarify.)
