The article entirely misses that one of the main points of Joinmarket (the "market" part) is the ability to choose the exact denomination yourself (not, as per the article "many different denominations are available" - a phrase that clearly shows the author has not studied how it works, as indeed does the entirely wrong "Makers decide the values for a CoinJoin"), thus entirely removing the need for a change output.
Hey! I'm the author, and you're correct. Thank you for your feedback on this. What I wrote is mistaken on that point, and I will adjust it for something more accurate. I've obviously tested all these coinjoin implementations (Whirlpool, JoinMarket and Wasabi) for a few years but I am the least familiar with JoinMarket at the moment.
