"Javier Trujillo, the owner of Javi's Tacos in Omaha, along with four other restaurants, told local news outlet First Alert 6 that he's opting out of delivery apps after paying $188,000 in commissions last year (3). He added that cutting out the fees will help him retain staff while avoiding losses from orders that go to waste when no delivery person shows up to take them."

Going to a restaurant is the best if you’re feeling too lazy to cook.

But if I have to take out, I’d rather use a restaurant’s in-house delivery.

I’ve come to think the doordashes of the world are net negative (the delivery persons are often poor, underpaid recent immigrants who drive on the sidewalk with their scooters or don’t understand the local traffic culture and don’t always practice basic hygiene standards.. if it’s cold they might even stay in the buildings they’re bringing food to..)

If you really want take-out, why not just look up a restaurant from e.g. Google, then use an in-house driver to bring it to you?

What happens when no delivery person shows up? I would have thought DoorDash was on the hook for the refund.
