I need to give it some thought but it seemed like the Cowboys were having a nice draft.

I’d have the Giants in first though

reply

I've searched for consensus, but i do agree with the Giants being first, actually bought some shares in the NYC market cuzz of the draft

Taking only the Score grades goes like this

Grade: A+ Cleveland Browns

Brace yourself: Unbelievably enough, this is going to make the Browns sound like a first-class organization. I think Andrew Berry crushed this draft. I admit I wasn't super high on the Spencer Fano pick at No. 9 - mostly because I tabbed Monroe Freeling as the ideal left tackle to round out this new-look offensive line. But Fano has the elite athleticism for that spot, and he can be an excellent guard if it doesn't work out. From there, Cleveland got steal after steal. KC Concepcion is one of my favorite players in this class. With his ability to create easy separation and make things happen after the catch, he ended up as my No. 14 overall player. Since the Browns need more than one big addition at receiver to create a favorable environment for a quarterback in next year's draft, I hoped they'd double down on the position on Day 2. Sure enough, they found a perfect complement in Denzel Boston, a contested-catch machine who checked in at No. 23 on my big board. And getting a first-round talent in Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at No. 58 was one of the best value picks of the entire draft. Cleveland also made a few nice additions in the middle rounds, and Taylen Green was the right athletic passer to take a swing on from this class. If the Browns manage to pull off one more draft like they ones they've executed over the last two years - ideally, headlined by a top young quarterback - this team could be back

Grade: A Dallas Cowboys

Dallas is one of the big winners of this draft. Say what you will about positional value, but I can't believe other teams let Caleb Downs slide all the way to No. 11. The Ohio State safety was my No. 1 player in the class. As I see it, his unmatched instincts and reliable tackling skills significantly upgrade the Cowboys' defense in both pass coverage and the run game. Malachi Lawrence wasn't my favorite pick with Keldric Faulk still on the board at No. 23, but the defensive front got better by adding an explosive athlete with a great motor and polished rush skills off the edge. Don't overlook Jaishawn Barham, either. The Michigan standout is an incredibly physical linebacker who attacks linemen and ball-carriers alike in the run game. He also has the versatility to rotate down to the edge and get after the quarterback in passing situations. With this class of rookies joining several key veteran additions, the Cowboys' defense may have the pieces it needs to complement one of the league's premier scoring attacks.

Grade: A- New York Giants

John Harbaugh seems to have brought the Ravens' drafting expertise with him to New York. This is exactly the kind of group the new head coach needs to help build a strong foundation for his second act. While the Arvell Reese pick may come as a surprise, it's hard to argue with the best-player-available approach at No. 5. Reese will likely be deployed as a linebacker early on before eventually making the transition to the edge as a long-term complement to 2025 No. 3 overall pick Abdul Carter. Francis Mauigoa wasn't my favorite option at No. 10 - I saw Olaivavega Ioane as the better guard and Monroe Freeling as having the higher ceiling at tackle. Mauigoa is in the same tier of prospects, though, and it doesn't hurt that he has the versatility to play both spots. Colton Hood is an athletic press-man corner who fills an obvious need on the boundary, and Malachi Fields is a dominant ball-winner who could be a strong red-zone target opposite Malik Nabers. I think the Giants are probably still a year away from playoff contention, but this successful first offseason under Harbaugh suggests they'll make consistent progress on that path.

Grade: B+ Carolina Panthers

I like what the Panthers did here. Monroe Freeling, my No. 1 offensive lineman and No. 12 overall player in this class, was great value at No. 19. With left tackle Ickey Ekwonu coming off a major knee injury and right tackle Taylor Moton turning 32 in August, Carolina couldn't pass up this opportunity to shore up a premium position. Lee Hunter is a powerful, playmaking nose tackle who could be a nice addition to round out a new-look front seven after big-money deals for Jaelan Phillips and Devin Lloyd in free agency. I also really like the move to add a field-stretcher like Chris Brazzell II at receiver. All in all, Carolina found some really nice value while addressing critical needs at premium positions.

Grade: B+ Indianapolis Colts

This is the first of two consecutive years in which Indy doesn't have a first-round pick due to the Sauce Gardner trade. For a team with several glaring needs, it must have felt like a long wait for Day 2. I think the Colts made the best of the situation, though. CJ Allen, seen by many as a borderline first-round talent, was a steal at No. 53. A physical and athletic linebacker who plays with great instincts, the Georgia standout profiles as a high-level starter in the NFL. I thought the A.J. Haulcy pick was great value as well. His physicality and processing skills made him the No. 4 safety and No. 50 overall player on my board. Jalen Farmer is a powerful guard prospect who provides important depth and competition on the inside, and Bryce Boettcher's abilities as a rangy, run-and-chase linebacker could make him an interesting long-term fit to solidify the position alongside Allen. My only gripe: I think the Colts really could have used another premium investment at receiver to round out a group headlined by Alec Pierce and Josh Downs

I hadn’t given the Browns draft much thought. It does look pretty strong.

How can the gossip headline be anything other than the Vrabel scandal?

I thought the Lakers would be the story of the week but they’re getting buried by even more interesting stuff.

reply

Why is the Vrabel thing such a big story? Some coach fools around with a reporter.... is that realy such a big deal?

reply

It’s becoming more than that.

They were strategically planting and leaking stories through Rossini to undermine rival teams. That’s nothing new but this is still a pretty big sports media scandal.

reply

We need the follow up gossip segment

reply

This story became a much bigger deal yesterday

Let's open the New York Post, I'll report in a bit

We had this as a gossip 2 weeks back, we're way ahead of the curve, but definitely need to put Bron in it, I'm sorry Golbeart

I think Mendoza should be on of the athletes of the week.

Wemby injury is a big story.

How about a hockey stat?
"The Carolina Hurricanes won their first two playoff games for the seventh consecutive season. The only MLB/NBA/NFL/NHL franchise with a longer such streak was the Lakers from 1982 to 1991."

Taking some liberty with Quote of the Week because it is too good to ignore. "The Rockets are the dumbest team, and the most selfish team, in the postseason." Kendrick Perkins, reposted by grayruby

reply

Mendoza top headline (the draft) no actual athletic performance and low graded rehearsal interview by the young prodigy 😅😂

Yeah Wemby is a huge one, bit i think until Monday Spurs will get the split and maybe Wemby news will be more clear

Loved the curiosity, you have a talent for that

Yes it's definitely the quote of the week, you had one great this week as well

Don't give me credit for any of the stats I post. I get them all from Opta. All they do is post random stats all day. Haha
