my dad has the og kindle and i figure will just have to manually download and use calibre to strip the drm as ive done before, but why they insist on shafting people with older devicces is beyond me

Amazon is developing a new Kindle for PC app, but it will only be compatible with Windows 11. This will be an app available only to download from the Microsoft Store.

Native apps from the Windows Store are harder to break, since they are natively developed for a specific OS.

There used to be Kindle for Mac, available to download from the Amazon website. It was shuttered in 2023, and then Kindle for Mac was released, available only from the Apple App Store.
