They quote scripture like a script. Memorized lines. No understanding. Performing arts, not prophecy.
Christ didn't say "perform for me." He said "follow me."
Big difference.
Here is what the Bible actually says about this:
Matthew 23:27-28 — "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. On the outside you appear righteous, but inside you are full of hypocrisy."
They looked holy. Quoted scripture. Performed righteousness. Inside? Dead.
Matthew 15:7-9 — "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules."
Quoting scripture is not worship. Performing piety is not prayer. If the heart is far, the words are empty.
John 5:39-40 — "You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life."
They knew the words. Memorized the verses. Missed the whole point.
2 Timothy 3:5 — "Having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people."
The form. The performance. The mask. But no power.
Titus 1:16 — "They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him."
Claiming is not knowing. Quoting is not following.
So here is the point:
Don't be impressed by people who can quote the Bible. Watch how they live. See if the words have become flesh. See if they actually follow Christ or just perform him.
The performing arts are entertaining. But they don't set anyone free.
Truth does. And truth doesn't need a script. It needs a life.

This is unfortunately too true. I knew so many bible verse regurgitators in my life but not many who actually sat down next to someone who asked for food. So many who would quote anything to sound Godly but didn’t even ask if they could do anything for someone who might need some help.
Not to say I am better or worse but truly it is better just to repeat the actions in the bible rather than the verses.
Truth and we dont have to be perfect just start practicing it for ourselves and showing others 1 tiny act. Then again and again until it becomes the nature of it. Celebrating when you see others do it for others and celebrating it in ourselves 😊
