pull down to refresh

Got closer to some students recently. Realised that two of them like the word serendipity. So it has been salient on my mind.

A friend gave me a copy of “The Daily Dad”. Usually, I spend my mornings typing exam-style questions for students, but today I felt relaxed enough to turn to a page and read a meditation.

The line “between lower grades and better self-worth for your kid, you’ll choose better self-worth” struck a chord. Might have spontaneously decided to take the book to school because of a student’s recent circumstances. I can’t remember exactly now.

Turned out that form teachers needed to discuss the burden of expectations on young minds. There was even a video provided by the Ministry of Education that featured a concerned teacher dishing out great advice to combat the disappointment. But since I read aloud the meditation from “The Daily Dad”, I am going to be biased here and say that my style of approaching distraught is better!

I just think it’s crazy that the day I decided to read The Daily Dad coincided with the day teachers had to reassure students of their self-worth.

Hence, serendipity

I just remember it as the John Cusack Kate Beckinsale movie

reply

I did love that movie!

do you have any favourite words in Chinese? mine is 命里有时终须有,命里无时莫强求

reply

Probably 矛盾 both because of its simplicity but also imagery that it evokes.

also, I'm not erudite enough in Chinese to know that many sayings

reply

I also love the story behind 矛盾.

well it’s precisely because you aren’t erudite enough that I am curious to know what has stuck most indelibly in your consciousness haha
