The Universe 25 experiment, conducted by John B. Calhoun in the late 1960s/early 1970s, was a sociological study on rodents demonstrating that a "utopian" environment with abundant resources can still lead to total social collapse due to overcrowding and lack of social roles. Despite unlimited food and no predators, the population suffered a "behavioral sink", resulting in extreme apathy, violence, and extinction.
