My advice is to NOT open it to mass use
This is what I meant by being surprised: I thought most of the publicly available LNbits had slowly moved toward more private or local uses. I haven't heard about one that is just wide open in a while.

At least they limit the amount 👍

This is nice!
I run one myself, for some family members and friends. I know at least 10 public LNbits instances, run by good bitcoiners. Some of them are more public than others, some are mostly private with limited access only to known users.
I think this is one of the best solutions as "small community LN banks". As an example, Cuba Bitcoin is running one like that, with multiple services. Argentinian "La chispa" is also using a LNbits. In Brazil we have the BRLN community with multiple LNbits instances.
Instead of bullshit Spark and Ark, this is much better, at least in the onboarding phase for noobs.
Any knowledgeable bitcoiner, with a LN node should run such services for their local community.
My advice is to NOT open it to mass use, better to keep it locally, with limited number of users. People will start abusing it and is not easy to maintain it when the user number is too big.
