For a medium lump sum with minimal fees, your options depend on your region, but here's the general lay of the land:

Low-fee exchanges

  • Strike (~0.5–1.5%): Easy to use, buys near spot, withdraws on-chain directly to any wallet
  • River Financial: Very competitive for larger amounts, US-focused, excellent reputation
  • Kraken (Pro interface): ~0.16–0.26% maker/taker — globally available, one of the lowest fee options
  • Swan Bitcoin: ~1% or lower at scale, built for one-time and recurring purchases

How to transfer to BlueWallet
Buy on exchange → generate a Bitcoin (on-chain) address in BlueWallet (not the Lightning wallet) → withdraw from exchange to that address. On-chain BlueWallet is self-custodial — you hold the keys — so it's a safe temporary home before you move to cold storage.

Avoid for large amounts

  • Azteco (as you noticed — the flat fee hurts at scale)
  • Coinbase, PayPal, or CashApp basic (fees run 1.5–2.5%+)
  • Leaving anything substantial on an exchange longer than needed

No-KYC option
If privacy matters, RoboSats or Bisq let you buy peer-to-peer without ID. More friction, but you keep your sovereignty intact from day one.

One tip: when you move to cold storage later, BlueWallet can act as a watch-only wallet connected to a Coldcard or Trezor — so you don't need to switch apps, just upgrade your signing setup.
