Thinking about this for quite sometime and bringing it here to know where I'm wrong and why it's not, so please, give me your thoughts.
World Cup approaching, last chapter through the Messi–Ronaldo era? Now a new generation is rising — some are already legends, others are on trajectory to challenge historic GOATs.
Football (The Beautiful Game)Football (The Beautiful Game)
- Kylian Mbappé — If he wins the 2026 World Cup and keeps elite club production, he's at Real, he can legitimately be placed alongside Pelé in GOAT conversations. World Cups carry huge legacy weight; sustained peak scoring and trophies are key.
- Lamine Yamal — The next challenger, at 18 he’s on an elite trajectory; if he translates early brilliance into prolonged dominance, major trophies, and consistent end-product (goals/assists), Lamine Yamal can legitimately be in future GOAT conversations for football.
BaseballBaseball
- Shohei Ohtani — A unique modern phenomenon: elite two-way performance. If he stays healthy and keeps producing at both pitcher and hitter levels for several years, he becomes a one-of-a-kind GOAT case because there’s no real precedent.
BasketballBasketball
- LeBron James — Already in the GOAT debate thanks to longevity, peak performance, stats, and Finals impact.
- Victor Wembanyama — Never seen that, If he reaches his projected dominance and adds championships and sustained elite seasons, he could challenge LeBron’s more complete résumé, and like MJ take the mantle while still on his peak. Still early.
American Football (NFL)American Football (NFL)
- Patrick Mahomes — The best career starts ever. If he bounces back and adds more MVPs/Super Bowls, he’ll be the GOAT — especially now that Brady can't return.
Formula 1Formula 1
- Lewis Hamilton — Strong GOAT case already based on championships, wins, and era dominance. Final ranking depends on how you weight competition level and technical factors across eras. For me it will always be Senna but you got my point.
CyclingCycling
- Tadej Pogačar — Multiple Grand Tour wins and peak performances put him among the modern greats; sustained success and longevity would cement any GOAT claim. Era/team dynamics complicate comparisons, but if he lamds Giro d' Italia, Tour the France and La Volta de Espana in the same season, hard to argue.
DartsDarts
- Luke Littler — Teenage breakout with record marks. To be considered GOAT long-term he needs sustained major titles and years of dominance, but early signs are massive.
Bottom Line (for stackers debate)
- multiple sports currently feature extraordinary, once-in-a-generation talents.
- GOAT status needs time: major titles, longevity, and accumulated records still matter.
- Era comparisons are messy: rule/tech changes, competition depth, and team/context effects complicate direct cross-era rankings.
Buuuuut we’re likely in a “GOAT era” — rich with candidates who could solidify all-time status if they convert talent into long-term dominance and signature championships.
Who do you think will cross that threshold first? Who's missing?
Shohei will be the GOAT and I guess Lebron has an argument. Not sure about the rest. We will have to see what happens with Mahomes and the Chiefs. There is a good chance they will have to go through a rebuild soon.
It's going to be almost impossible for Mahomes to catch Brady at this point
Brady will always have the, yeah i played and beat the guy card. Mahomes needs a even stronger 2nd stint
2/3 head-to-head in Mahomes' prime at the tail-end of Brady's career will be hard to overcome, if Mahomes even gets close enough for that to matter
He definitely needs more accolades but if he reaches in numbers all the glory is his own, there's no Bill winning on defense, and Brady beating him will be like the passage of the torch to the young talent.
Andy Reid will likely pass Belichick as the winningest coach of all time, so it's similar. Plus, Spags is widely considered one of the best DCs in the league.
Andy is gis side of the ball, spags i do agree for Hardcore fansish, not general, they won with offense, that's my point
If Mahomes can be great and win without Reid and Spags, then he’ll have a stronger case.
Yeah it's all open and I'm not scratching the rest, NHL anyone for the challenge?
The Chiefs need the bounce back otherwise it will feel like a drought, my end up doing a market for KC
I do not agree that mahomes would be the goat over Brady, but maybe he will surprise me
He's on the path needs to ride it to the end
Ohtani's my guess, because he's got a nice head start on Wemby and is even more unique.
There have been other dominant two-way bigs, but there hasn't been a great two-way pitcher since Babe Ruth.
And from my knowledge Babe stopped pitching really early, right?
I'm the wrong guy for that
