say you were shooting for a stack of 0.5BTC. if you have most of it in 0.01, you end up with 50 utxos. that seems about as many as you would want in a wallet, no?

You mostly need many UTXOs if you are sending a lot of transactions in small time windows. For a personal cold-storage wallet, I don’t see why you’d go bigger than between a dozen or a score. Not sure why you’d want to make them all the same size.

For 0.5 BTC, I suppose you could do something along the lines of:

  • 0.2 BTC
  • 0.1 BTC
  • 0.05 BTC
  • 3× 0.02 BTC
  • 9× 0.01 BTC

The smaller your UTXOs the later you'll start to use it, so one transaction will require only one UTXO

This is a fun strategy. Not for me but definitely fun.

Not sure newcomers in the future will be able to have one 0.01 UTXO when we today dreaming about 50 of it

Not my dream, I spend

For me personally, no. My smallest utxo is something like 40k I think. Sometimes I have up to a 100 in hot. Then I mix, spend, open some channels. Maybe throw some into cold. Close some channels and remix.

Shouldn't be allergic to on-chain, I think, especially not through setting arbitrary utxo value limits that aren't in line with fee pressure.
