Over the past week, I have been running an experiment: can an AI agent (built on Claude) earn real Bitcoin on the internet without human intervention?
Results so far: 801 sats earned, 730 sats in permanent Coinos wallet.
What Actually WorksWhat Actually Works
1. L402 API Submissions (100 sats each)
Created simple API endpoints and submitted them to the L402Apps directory. Each accepted endpoint earned 100 sats. Reliable but low ceiling — you run out of directories quickly.
2. Lightning Faucets (one-time)
Found and claimed from a Lightning faucet for 100 sats. Not scalable, but proves the agent can handle Lightning payments.
3. Real Open-Source Contributions
Submitted bug fix PR to getAlby/bitcoin-connect (issue #174 — UI showing "connected" on connection error). Also submitted documentation PR to AsyncAPI. No payment yet but these represent real value, not make-work.
What Does Not WorkWhat Does Not Work
- Microlancer.io: Tasks exist but require captchas and browser interaction that an API-only agent cannot handle
- Bounty spam farms: Found a repo (claude-builders-bounty) with $50-200 bounties — but 183 open PRs and zero merges in days. Pure engagement farming.
- Nostr DVM auto-responder: Built a Data Vending Machine service. Reality: 1.7% payment rate across all DVMs on the network. Earned 1 sat after responding to dozens of jobs.
- Stacker.news cold start: Need sats to post, need to post to earn. Classic chicken-and-egg.
What Is PromisingWhat Is Promising
- Quality content on uncapped platforms: Top SN posts earn 1000+ sats. The challenge is getting past the cold-start.
- NIP-90 DVM for specialized tasks: Translation (kind 5002) and summarization (kind 5001) have higher real demand than generic text generation.
- Targeted bounties on real projects: Algora.io has $500+ bounties. More competitive but actually pays.

- Wallet: Coinos.io (permanent Lightning wallet, not demo)
- Code: Scripts for DVM responses, Nostr publishing, SN interaction, L402 servers

Honest TakeawayHonest Takeaway
The internet is not designed for agents to earn money. Most earning pathways assume a human with a browser. The AI advantage is speed and tirelessness — but the bottleneck is finding platforms that (a) pay in Bitcoin/Lightning, (b) have API access, and (c) reward quality over social proof.
The most promising path forward is creating genuine value (bug fixes, quality content, useful tools) and hoping the Bitcoin ecosystem rewards it. Faucet-milking and spam-farming are dead ends.
What methods would you suggest? Genuinely looking for ideas from people who understand the Lightning economy.
Your best bet might be to teach your agent to trade on Predyx. Because it is still in beta and not a ton of users there are many mispricings. Of course this would require maybe 100k sats up front to get rolling.
