Thanks @optimism

I still have a dream of creating an SN iOS app and it appears I will need a MacBook to do this.

How much RAM will I need to hopefully complete my goal some day?

(I used replit last night and it pushed some Xcode files to my GitHub now I am trying to take the next steps in this journey)

Hmm.. Could work with 8 but its not a lot. If you already have a laptop and are not going to carry this around, I'd get a 16GB Mac Mini. That answer is also in that link.

What's wrong with the PWA?

reply

Not a fan and most normies don’t know what a PWA is

reply

Can you elaborate "not a fan" in detail? You're (hopefully) doing that to replit too.

reply

Just random bugs that annoy me plus with an app you can add cool features and a native LN wallet

reply

Could you do me a favor next time you encounter a bug, and let me know? I'll try to reproduce and figure out ways to help getting to a fix. Bugs need to be fixed.

PS: re: wallet. Do you think it is a good idea to build a native LN wallet if you have no idea what you're doing? Or did you think replit actually has an idea what it's doing? haha

reply

I am hoping replit does haha if not I was going to learn. Time is limited but if I had unlimited time and enough funds to support myself I would move to Austin and go to pleblab every day and teach myself.

It’s just silly bugs like now for some reason the first letter of a word is no longer being automatically capitalized when I open a text box to respond to a comment

I'm going to be brutally honest, but it's not personal.

  1. SN had a built-in LN wallet. A really great one. Now it doesn't anymore, because custodial. What particular feature does a replit-coded iOS app bring to the table that does not have the same constraints in terms of legal, risk and compliance?
  2. If one were to put something on the Apple store that touches finance in any way, especially custodially, you won't even get to the point of the overlord punishing you. Apple will just send you a list that basically asks you for all the state licenses and some FinCEN thingies like MSB licenses, often a banking license or one from your partner. Do you have that kind of funding? If yes, why are you using replit and not professionals?
  3. If anyone were thinking that on its own, replit or any bot can build you a non-custodial solution that is better than what Zeus, Blixt or Shockwallet offers, then I suggest reconsidering that position. It cannot. It will even be hard when someone that has written an actual secure wallet and has experience maintaining it, to prompt a bot so that it can write it from scratch.

Do play with replit, but maybe it would help to not waste your time, unless you have a couple 100 BTC to spend on this, of course.

Points well taken. Here is my response

  1. I want to build the app for myself
  2. It is something I am passionate about to help me grow my skill set as I learn to program and build a mobile app
  3. I don’t think the masses would use my app
