Finally, a picture book that both father and son could enjoy. Not only did we enjoy the read, but we were prompted to take action as a result of reading the book.

Needless to say, we were affected in different way. I was captivated by the whimsical and colourful illustrations - reminiscent of the iconic Taiwanese illustrator, Jimmy Liao’s style - that made me yearn for Paris. I went to Google if French people really keep bee hives at the roof tops of buildings. Turned out that they really do. I subsequently used this knowledge to write a short piece on beekeeping for my Term 2 Spelling List. Who knew that an ordinary picture book could provide folder for inspiration?

But nothing I did was a match for the first grader. He went to watch some honeybee videos on YouTube - which is normal because it is his main source of information. Then, exceeding my expectations, he borrowed three books on bees from the local library today. 🐝 Talk about developing an obsession. To cap it off, he has been asking weird questions like how bee poop looks like and what happens to the eggs when the queen bee flies away from her hive. I don’t know how to answer such existential questions.

Suffice it to say that there isn’t any need for me to recount the storyline if it has affected us so profoundly. Please go and read it. Highly recommended.
