I definitely have some prepper tendancies, but I haven't really gone in. But now I'm thinking about it.
What to stock up on? What will be much more expensive, or unavailable?
I'll start with the basics that people are saying.
Gas - though storing gas at home is difficult to impossible
Food - anything nonperishable
Electronics (anything specific?)
I'm in Western Australia which is pretty remote. Still the price of fuel seems to be about to break everything. Although we produce more food than we consume there are long distances between producers and consumers. We are highly dependent on imported fuel.
I bought a second hand freezer today to store some bulk meat. Don't think we'll have an issue with grain. Coming into winter here it will rain often so water shouldn't be an issue till next summer.
Also looking at getting more essential tools to fix stuff that breaks around the house. Want to improve my security setup too. Possibly mesh if things take longer to break down than it looks.
We have a pretty tight social network that we can help each other if there's an issue too.
Tools - that sounds like a great idea. What general types of tools are you looking at?
What can you do with security in Australia? No firearms, right? I guess there's a lot you can do without firearms as well.
With the shootings in Bondi recently they've made it very difficult to get firearms. Haven't banned kitchen knives just yet!
I think some welding equipment, electrical tools, a grinder, table saw etc is a good start.
America produces plenty of food and gas. You’ll be fine.
Just buy some extra of whatever it is you normally use, provided you can store it, and that will insulate you from supply disruption.
You obviously don't have any prepper tendencies. Talking, planning, theorizing, and then maybe actually buying stuff is half the fun.
Heck, I'm thinking this might be a good excuse to buy a solar panel/battery. Or whatever I need to get started with mesh networks.
Haha, I come from multiple generations of homesteaders. There are plenty of prepper tendencies.
I just also think most preppers are prepping for the wrong things and you don’t need to be worried about the things you mentioned.
i mean, maybe the best prepping is going to a gun club and making friends there because, if shit pops off in any meaningful way, i mean, like a societal breakdown type thing, raping and looting starts happening fast, and lone wolfing would only work if you were already living in some isolated cabin and were basically sustainable
if it was more of a prolonged suck, but not full Mad Max situation, the best prep should probably include basic medications, things like hydrogen peroxide, first aid etc
if you can grow food , get a borhole, have chickens things like that, you'd be alright, although i dont know how many urban stackers fit that bill.
i think u shud first start with taking long walks with a heavy-ish backpack, preferrably in the nature, because
this means u shud also start preparing a go-bag as u are stacking home supplies; as u master the go-bag inventory, u will also master the home inventory; prepare as if going on an adventure hike;
i wud also start fasting by narrowing ur eating window, because a mind distracted by food cravings cannot function very well, whether there is an abundance of food or not;

One thing that I know...people that are connected, know their neighbors, have friends around - they are much more likely to get through a crisis. Just through knowing what the local situation is.
So...be connected? Not something you can buy though...
better start sharing some goodies with ur neighbors then, unless they are dipshits; 🙃
There's a guy in the Werner Herzog penguin documentary who always keeps a pretty awesome go bag with him. The centerpiece is an inflatable boat. I think about that sometimes.
Dang...an inflatable boat! Now THAT's some prepping...
