TL;DR I have OsmAnd and Bitchchat installed to function in case internet connectivity comes under threat.

Spotted that Moscow is shutting off the internet to test its censorship abilities.

Can't hurt to have some offline maps ready (OsmAnd) and offline friendly messaging app on hand (Bitchat).

Thoughts?

Saw this yesterday, haven't set one up yet. I am thinking more about what I really need. I don't want to go overboard on prepping.

Local AI models is a fun idea.

First thought is they are power hungry. And worst case is power my be scarce.

If you are worried about a "ddomsday" all those apps are totally worthless.
Doomsday means nothing electronic will work anymore...

Better focus on how to avoid this scenario: build your homestead and not be depended too much of any external "supplier". Improve your skills in providing food, shelter, water, security. Knowledge will be the most valuable currency.

Where did you hear about Moscow shutting down internet?

Have you tested out BitChat, in the sense that you can talk to strangers? I tried it once a couple months ago, and was able to talk to my friend across the room. But I never took it further than that, nobody else showed up.

Love the idea though.

OsmAnd and Bitchchat

In this scenario you've laid out, does everyone you need to talk to actually use these apps? If it turned out they didn’t, it would be too late.

Offline maps are good to have in any situation. Organic Maps for your daily life.
