I checked a lot of my recent posts, especially the ones that dealt with Israel, the Charlie Kirk assassination, and the Iran war. These have all been downzapped, some by a lot.
I was wondering why things that I wrote were just not getting any traction, even when I boosted them. This explains a lot.

Anyway, these were the top downzapped posts for the past week. Notice a theme? Each of them was downzapped 5000 sats.

Well, seems like someone either doesn't like politics in general (who can blame them) or doesn't like my flavor of politics (I can live with that). Downzaps working as intended. Probably even getting more visibility by being at the top of such a list.

You mean, assuming it is worth my money, the rational thing to do would be for me to counterzap the 5000 sats from the downzap? For me, in this specific case, it isn't worth it. My post already had eyes on it, and as I said, being on the top of a downzap list also draws in a few new eyes. So from the perspective of the downzapper, this would be evidence of it not working as intended, no?
Intended by whom? It's probably not what the downzapper intended, but it might be what k00b intended.
The response I'm talking about includes boosting our own stuff, when we want to make sure it reaches others, but also zapping stuff more that we want to reach others.

When I was posting anti-war stuff about the war in Ukraine it stirred up quite a bit of negative responses. I don't think downzaps were a thing back then but I suspect there are a handful of annoyed stackers.
