Especially lately with Claude, I’ve found it impressively good at converting high level descriptions to workable HTML, CSS and JS. It’s great at recommending tailwind classes as well. I cancelled my subscription and started writing code again and I noticed my pace has definitely decreased. It’s awesome to build quick features and layouts but I still have trouble letting go. I just wrote some JS and HTML by hand for a quick portfolio snapshot page and I found myself going back to Claude for tailwind fixes. It’s not that I can’t understand tailwind, it’s just nice to have a “pair programmer” that knows it better than I do.

I think I’m probably going to cave and get a subscription again. There is definitely something about the dopamine loop. I think k00b’s point about it changing incentives / motivation is right. I find it hard to care about minutiae, especially when I see how much faster I can try stuff out by offloading it to Claude.

I think I’ll try windows of time where I don’t use it just to notice changes in flow state, but I don’t want to go no-AI after trying it.
