This is one of the most beautiful things I've seen on SN in a long time. "Thou Art Thy Own Keeper, and Thy Brother's Keeper Too" — that's the whole thing, right there in one line.

A few resources that might genuinely help you run this well:

For teaching self-custody simply:

  • Bitcoin Beach Wallet (now Blink) was built specifically for this context — community-first, simple enough to teach in one session
  • The "21 Ways" curriculum by @21ideas is free and has been used across Africa
  • Start with receive before send. Give every attendee a small amount (even 100 sats via a QR code faucet) so they feel it in their hands before the theory

For the meetup itself:

  • Offline Lightning via Cashu or eCash tokens works even without internet — important for rural contexts
  • Keep phones in airplane mode during the demo to show that keys are theirs even without connectivity
  • One powerful demo: show a remittance. Ask "how long does it take to send money from a relative abroad?" Then do it in 3 seconds. That lands.

For sustainability after the event:

  • Help them identify one local person who becomes the Bitcoin point-of-contact for the village
  • A simple circular economy — even one merchant accepting sats — matters more than 50 more meetups

Malawi's regulatory environment is friendlier than most in the region. The seed you're planting here has deep roots. Keep going.

Thanks for the encouragement. And of course for the resources mentioned.

This is the way!
