The Trump administration has unilaterally—without any Congressional debate or vote, of course—forced Americans into yet another war. This time, the war is a large-scale military campaign against Iran. Was there any groundswell of public support for this war? Did the Congress vote to spend more American tax dollars on another war? Apparently not. According to a March 1 poll from Reuters, only 27 percent of Americans polled said they support the US’s new war on Iran.
The current war is a timely reminder that the US ruling elites regard the US taxpayers and ordinary Americans as little more than inconvenient afterthoughts in the formation of US foreign policy. At the same time, the US regime also claims to have the moral high ground precisely because the American regime is supposedly “democratic” with the support of “the people.”
They didn't even do us the courtesy of a propaganda campaign this time 😔
In all seriousness, this has been a major problem for long time, but I was still impressed how there wasn't even the slightest interest in discussing, nevermind courting, public opinion on this one.

What’s so interesting about this is how in DC right now I see minorities from the Middle East celebrating while it’s white people who are upset. When you look at what party is “supposed” to define a certain group it’s flipped.
This was a once in a generation opportunity and if we didn’t cease it now and Iran executed a dirty bomb or doubled down on its terror proxies we would have kicked ourselves.
It’s important to note that while the initial strikes were called US-Israel strikes Israel launched there’s 20 minutes before ours. Once this was happening Iran was going to strike the U.S. assets in the area creating the emergency allowing the U.S. to protect its soldiers and interests.
These technicalities matter and as long as within 60 days this starts being wrapped up, which the enormous fallout in Iranian attacks are points towards this is going to not only be successful but realistically wrap up before War Powers issues. Israel is the one going after the leadership and regime targets we have just been hitting the military ones. For once the Admin has kept the Gang of 8 in the loop and there stances have been telling.
Lol
Last I checked more than 1000 iranian civilians. dead. many children. But war is peace. So..

And those people can vote to change the direction.... midterms are just a few months away. Once you vote though you surrender a certain amount of your freedom as you put it behind certain people. Its a trade off
MAGA people thought they did vote to change the direction.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss - AIPAC
I can't speak on behalf of everyone but I think a huge part not putting boots on the ground. Now Trump and the Admin isn't going to come out and say they won't because why broadcast to your enemy what you are doing. We learned from the Obama Admin that if you say we are going to surge troops for a year and then pullback the person you are fighting will just dial back there activity till after the surge passes.
You cannot stop a war by showing a constitution.
The Con-stittution is just a piece of paper, a napkin like this one...
You stop wars by stop participating in their so called "society".
I personally question the wisdom and propriety of the strikes, but I do acknowledge that the Persian diaspora supports it. I dont know how actual Iranians living in Iran feel about it, I imagine it's a mix of support but also fear for what comes next as well as anger over the destruction
I was in DC in 1979 and the early 1980s. Many of my college classmates were the sons and daughters of the Shah's supporters who fled Iran. No doubt the diaspora is happy.
Westwood (in Los Angeles), which is sometimes called "Little Tehran" due to the large Persian population, had a massive demonstration in support of the strikes this past Sunday.
They want their country back. I can relate to that. I want my country back too.
When would you say you lost it?
Good question. Probably before I was born.
Dang.
Probably 1913, when both the Federal Reserve was created and when the US Federal Government was granted the power to levy direct taxes.
The part that has really struck me though are the videos from inside Iran itself where people are celebrating and tearing things down again. The Regimes response has practically been shooting people on the street and that historically speaking does not work long term.
My understanding from talking to people is that while the Shah was corrupt and repressive he was at the same time much more hands off in certain areas. What replaced the Shah though has been a blanket repressive Regime or rather just something much worse than what they had.
Agreed. I'm not arguing about Iranian politics. Trump ran against forever wars, and specifically against getting involved in this situation. The administration's argument as to why we started this changes daily. Ultimately, it seems more and more that Israel decides what we do.
Personally the only person in the Admin who seems to be able to keep his story straight over the vast majority of the things going on is Sec. Rubio.
I agree to a point with the Israel point when it comes to attacks on Iran and how the dominos were going to fall. Iran was always going to hold us responsible for Israel attacking them. With Gaza Trump has done a surprisingly decent job there and I did not see that coming at all. Not only are hostilities down but Israel pulled out of so many areas and aid has ramped up considerably. We even have some cooperation with the Islamic World on reconstruction and helping Gaza.
To me this would be the same sort of thing that would happen if North Korea and South Korea heated up again and they started lobbing missiles at each other. Even if the U.S. was just sitting there without having done a single thing North Korea would lob things at us and we would have to respond.
President Donald Trump was anointed by Jesus… to cause Armageddon”(complaint says)
Separate thread worth adding to “WWIII / escalation risk”: troops say a commander framed the Iran war as prophecy.

wake me up when this shitshow is over 😅😂

There are two armies in Iran: the Revolutionary Guard and the Iranian National Army. Trump tells the people to go out into the streets and protest their government. But he doesn't know that in the past few months, during what were only small protests, thousands of Iranians were killed by the Revolutionary Guard. Even with this offer, which is hostile to the Iranian people, Trump shows a complete lack of awareness of what he's doing. Such statements can be presented as proof that the war is entirely Israel's idea
