Makes sense that free markets usually handle stuff well, but China’s grip on critical minerals really is a different beast. Governments can’t just sit back when a single country controls 80–99% of what the world needs.

Read the post again, and try thinking dynamically: nothing "controls" resources etc, there's plenty more able to come online

Yeah, new sources could come online eventually, but it’s not instant. Mining and refining critical minerals takes years and tons of investment. That’s why even if one country doesn’t “control” everything forever, having most of it concentrated still creates real risks.
