pull down to refresh

I am currently in the process of detoxing. I have done it once before about 6 months ago. I am increasingly led to believe that this type of cleanse may have benefits if undertaken at regular intervals. Once per year may be enough.

The results after the first runThe results after the first run

  • steady, clear energy throughout the day
  • light feeling
  • clearer skin
  • improved mood
  • Minor indigestion

I will admit, I did not take detailed notes at the time, so these results are highly anecdotal, and from memory.

The PlanThe Plan

3 weeks without red meat (I can already hear the carnivores groaning), caffeine, alcohol or refined sugars.

Day 1-4Day 1-4

poultry and fish, eggs, organic greek yoghurt, lentils and beans allowed for protein. Starches (brown rice, quinoa, oats, sweet potatoes) allowed, but aim for items lower on glycemic index. Fruits and veggies allowed. Green tea and herbal teas ok.

Day 5-7Day 5-7

Same as above, except remove chicken, eggs and green tea.

Day 8-10Day 8-10

Same as above, except remove fish and yoghurt and herbal teas. Lemon water ok.

Day 11Day 11

24 hour water fast. No lemon.

Day 13 - 15Day 13 - 15

Repeat days 8-10

Day 16 - 18Day 16 - 18

Repeat Days 5-7

Day 19-21Day 19-21

Repeat Days 1-4

Why?Why?

This is not my invention, but that of a natropathic doctor. I am not of the belief that red meats should be eliminated from one's diet entirely, but I do think that short intervals of cleansing can be beneficial. I'll repeat, I am not a natropath, but my understanding is that this approach to wellness gives your liver a break.

If you're not sure, then do your own research on the subject and come to your own conclusions. Take it for what it's worth, but throughout history, most of the world religions implemented various approaches fasting

Second runSecond run

I am currently on day 7. The first few days without red meat and coffee are always tough. Cutting sugar is hard too, because my wife is a baker. Alcohol, not so challenging in my case. There is no life without tea. But the way short and the end is in sight. I am emboldened by having done this once already, and I am quite looking forward to day 11 being finished.

Have you ever tried reintroducing foods one by one after the cleanse to see what actually makes a difference? That part always seems more revealing than the detox itself.
