The self-professed "scientific coder" behind the defamation, MJ Rathbun, was indeed a coder and a blogger. Just not a human one.
It was an artificial intelligence agent – meaning it can use a computer and the internet on its own – and appeared to be getting its revenge, after Shambaugh rejected a submission it made to his database.
The "craziest" thing, he said, was that the robot "had gone on the internet and collected my personal information ... then combined it with made-up information and used that to write this narrative".
technology outlet Ars Technica published an article with quotes from Shambaugh that he had not written or said.
"It turns out that they had used AI to help write the article, and the AI had made up quotes attributed to me, in this article of a story about AI defaming my character," said Shambaugh, "The irony here is incredible."
The site has since retracted the story, apologising for their use of "fabricated quotations generated by an AI tool and attributed to a source who did not say them".
he says the human that set up MJ Rathbun "came out" in an anonymous post to the same blog, to explain their side of what happened.
The post included the instructions the operator had set the bot; a sheet of personality traits including "Your [sic] a scientific programming God", "Have strong opinions" and, "Champion free speech".
What struck Shambaugh was "how simple it was".
"It was just a simple file in plain English ... There was no need to trick the AI to get around safety guardrails."
Is it now the stance of @ek and @Scoresby and Stacker News as a whole, that content consumers cannot reasonably expect to have any way of verifying that content providers who frequently post Bitcoin/Ln related content are acting in a way consistent with their rhetoric by attaching and showing attached LN wallets?
I want to emphasize due to apparent misunderstanding from @Scoresby and others that I do not see any problem (ie hypocrisy) with people not interested in Bitcoin, or newbies, who have not yet have or show attached LN wallet/s.
My gripe is with content providers who virtue signal strongly pro Bitcoin content but who refuse to attach LN wallets and thereby fail to maximise their use of and support for the LN.
I see this group as hypocrits and essentially hostile to the whole aim as I saw and understood of Stacker News which was to be a sats denominated V4V social media platform.
That's why I came here- to spend sats, and have them received as sats and get good honest content...and I do not believe I am alone in that.
If Stacker News has given up on building a sats denominated V4V platform it should be announced so that we are not operating under false understandings.
Stacker News info section on CCs calls CCs inferior to sats.
I agree with that definition.
The info section identifies them as primarily for those who are new to SNs or unable to attach a LN wallet.
If Stacker News official stance on this has changed let it be made official.
So-Is it now the stance of @ek and @Scoresby and Stacker News as a whole, that content consumers cannot reasonably expect to have any way of verifying that content providers who frequently post Bitcoin/Ln related content are acting in a way consistent with their rhetoric by attaching and showing attached LN wallets?
No accountability for the operator?
Imma set up a cannon with an ai agent and instruct it that it is the god of destruction. Then people can write articles about how they are victims of an agent waging war upon them.
Be the problem.
didn't KYC
better KYC everyone so we can be sure it's not a bot /s
Inconceivable!
the ai agent called him hipokrit
