Btw, I figured out a workaround for this: I clicked on the timestamp to be sent directly to your comment. Then I can keep clicking "parent" to read the whole thread.
I also do this often, and it has begun bothering me. I recall reddit used to have some link that added &context=3 and you could tweak the values manually. SN could probably use something similar...
