We reached Defcon 1!We reached Defcon 1!

I found this website by @supertestnet some time back and decided that it would be better if it felt like a nuclear submarine. So I turned it into this.

Now fast forward to today. I've been checking out this block guessing game that seems to be all the rage on nostr right now and noticed that it had been a LONG time since the last block. Well sure enough, I went into the command center of my submarine and we were at DEFCON 1!

As of this posting, we're all the safe and sound back way back down to DEFCON 7. πŸ˜…

Keep an eye on the state of the blockchain with your helpful neighborhood bitcoin defcon tool. It's the least useful and most dramatic blockchain analysis tool around. You won't find any blockchain analysis tools with a more quirky soundtrack.

To clarify, there is no reason to fear if we reach defcon 1. This is just for fun. I mean, we did have a bizarrely long time before that block got mined, but our average block time right now is actually under 10 minutes. This is just for fun and learning. #notapocalypticadvice

When I first did it, I had them mixed up. I need to go find the original post to see who corrected me, but I originally had it set for the number to go higher with urgency and defcon is actually the other way around.

I still don't understand it. If there is defcon 1 then what do I do? Take out my notepad and manually start calculating sha256 hashes over block headers?

Well first off, I hope its obvious this whole thing is kind of a joke. It basically just means that more time has passed since the last block than you normally see. There's a conspiracy theory that Bitcoin could fall into a spiral in which difficulty is so high and hash rate so low that a new block would never be mined and the difficulty never reset. I'm basically just trying to poke fun at that here. ...potentially unsuccessfully.

Oh man. I learned sigma and the summation equation so I could understand the white paper a little better. Now you’re throwing lambda at me!?

Nah that was the first thing I checked with the boss, before I wrote that reply: "was this us?" πŸ˜‚
