Elon Musk said on Sunday that SpaceX has shifted its focus to building a “self‑growing city” on the moon, which could be achieved in less than 10 years.
This has always been the obvious next step because it makes getting to Mars much easier and lets us figure out how to live in a similar environment with much less risk.
I was about to type this in a much less eloquent formulation.
I’ve been spending a lot of my spare time thinking about this stuff recently.
I've been wondering for a couple of years now why Elon was skipping the moon. It's got great real estate, especially as a launchpad to off-planet manufacturing, especially the lack of atmosphere helps.
