There must be some sociological/economic research which demonstrates that the actual-name-of-thing.com domains are negatively correlated with product quality.
And the underlying theory would be exactly that: if you own that domain name, you don't have to work as hard to actually make a good product.
We've been living in that world since at least the 70s, though some of my friends would argue that it started in 1933 when Heineken entered the US lol
