74 years later Royce Williams is getting the credit and honor he earned. In 1952 over the South China Sea his F9F-5 Panther ran into 7 Soviet MiG-15s and engaged with them for a 35 minute air battle.

At the end he downed 4 of the planes plus he managed to get his heavily damaged jet back to its carrier. The US decided to keep this secret till 2016 because thy didn’t want it known the Soviets were active in the Korean War and the Soviets didn’t acknowledge it because well they lost a 7 on 1 battle.
