l’ve spent the last few weekends trying to de-Google my life as much as possible. It’s a rabbit hole, but once you start seeing how much data is being sucked up, you can’t unsee it.
If you’re looking to reclaim some privacy without breaking your workflow, here’s what I’m currently using:
Browser: LibreWolf. It’s basically Firefox but with all the telemetry and tracking stripped out by default. Much faster than Brave in my experience.
Search: Mullin. Or SearXNG if you want to host your own instance. Stop letting Google profile your curiosity.
Mail: Moved everything to Proton, but I use SimpleLogin aliases for every single service I sign up for. If a site leaks my data, I know exactly who sold me out.
Maps: This was the hardest, but Organic Maps (OpenStreetMap) is actually usable now. No tracking, works offline.
The best part? Most of these are open-source and respect the "sovereign individual" mindset that we talk about here in the Bitcoin space.
One tip for the SN crew: If you're still using Chrome "for the convenience," you're paying for it with your soul (and your data). Switching takes 10 minutes, but the peace of mind is worth way more than that.
What am I missing? Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a YouTube alternative that doesn't suck? (Already using FreeTube on desktop).
