It reminds me of a debate within theology, with a historical "German School" of theology trying to establish Christian faith claims rooted only on empiricism and (obviously) failing to thereby uphold historical doctrines of the faith.

Menger also identified that even empirical sciences necessarily have core non-empirical presuppositions

And this is indeed one of the critiques that historically orthodox theologians level at the liberal German schoolers
